had a good night...

Matthew had a good night last night, according to his doctors and nurses. They gave him the day to rest today, since he has already undergone four surgeries and another procedure. These surgeries have not yet addressed his pelvis, which will have to be pinned together with screws temporarily (probably Thursday). The surgeries so far have been to slow and stop the internal bleeding. Today, he continued to have a fever and seems to be fighting a cold or sinus infection of some kind, so please, once again, pray for him. He is so strong. I told him that over and over today. He looked at me and seemed to make more eye contact. He seems to be more aware that there are many tubes and contraptions in his mouth because he scrunched his face up as if to try to get rid of them. I made him promise me that he would stay strong and keep fighting. (I think maybe he nodded ever so slightly...It's really hard to tell, but I'm going to believe that he could hear me and was motivated by my comments.) :)

Thank you again to everyone for sharing your love for Matthew on this forum. Sometimes it can feel vulnerable to lay your heart on the line, but I know he can feel all of our presence and I know that he has made himself vulnerable to all of us for our sakes at one time or another. Love to everyone and I will continue to keep you posted.

  6. Dearest Erin,
I know you are all being blessed w/ the love and support of so many at this time. I also know it is hard to sometimes ask for help but we are all here for you so when you find you need something in particular, please post it here so that those who can will be able to respond. Sometimes what seems big to us is inconsequential to others and sometimes what seems like a small task to ask someone to help us with is still, nonetheless, very important as it needs to get done. So please just ask without filtering. Thank you for having the wherewithall to put this together so that we may keep updated. We will continue to pray and be there for you all on this journey. Much love, Nancy, Bob and Jason

  7. Hi Erin,

Thank you for all you are doing to keep everyone so strong and community-driven.

I am sorry to say I have not seen Matt for a long time, but wanted to tell him I am thinking about him, praying for him and sending every ounce of positive, strength-healing energy to him, you, and your family.

Matt has such an amazing spirit and I am not at all surprised to hear he is still smiling and will keep smiling until it turns into that infectious laughter I have always loved.

Thank you Erin, I'm keeping Matt in my prayers.

  8. I read about this on blogofsandiego.com and while I do not know Matt or his family, I am sending warm thoughts, prayers and strength to all affected by this awful tragedy. Matt sounds like an amazing guy from all the comments so it is no wonder that he is staying strong and still smiling. Erin, I can tell you are an awesome sister and Matt is very lucky to have you in his life. Hang in there, I am praying for you all.
